The Scottish Borders Jedburgh Things to do Directions

How to find the Hotel

Jedburgh is bypassed by the A68, and is approximately 50 miles from Edinburgh and 58 miles from Newcastle.

The Spread Eagle hotel is a white three-storey building on the High Street in Jedburgh. From the A68, follow signs for Tourist Information to the Mercat Cross. Turn right onto the High Street. The hotel is approximately 50 yards down the road on your left. Parking is to the rear of the hotel and is accessed from the Friarsgate off Exchange Street

From the North, travelling from Edinburgh

If you are driving, follow the City Bypass (A720) towards Berwick-upon-Tweed. Take the first slip after the Sherriffhall Roundabout onto the Dalkeith bypass which is signposted A68 and Jedburgh.

If you are cycling, you will need to avoid the City Bypass, as cycles are not permitted. In this case, you can take the A7 from Edinburgh to Dalkeith, and then follow the A68 to Jedburgh.
Do bear in mind, however, that Soutra hill is long and steep as well as unlit and often foggy.

From the South, via Carlisle

This is our preferred route to Jedburgh from the South, as we find the A7 an easier road to drive than the A68. The views are not quite as spectacular, though, so do take your pick.

Follow the M6 north to Carlisle.
Take the A7 signposted Hawick / Galashiels through Longtown and Langholm to Hawick.
From Hawick follow the A698 and signs for Jedburgh.

From the South, travelling from Newcastle

Take the A1 out of Newcastle heading north.
At the junction signposted Jedburgh, take the A68 North.

Public Transport

Regular bus services run between Jedburgh and Edinburgh, Galashiels, Hawick and Newcastle. Munros of Jedburgh run most of the scheduled services, with a few provided by National Express and FirstBus.

The bus service from Carlisle to Galashiels is a Rail Link service.

Please feel free contact us for bus timetable information as the various websites are sometimes not updated accurately.

Walking

If you are on a walking holiday, we would be delighted to arrange for a local taxi firm to collect you from your stopping point and take you back in the morning.

Please mention this when you are booking, and we will either arrange a time for your pickup, or wait for your phone call. Do bear in mind, though, that mobile telephone reception in the hills can be variable.

International Travel

Jedburgh is about 90 minutes from Edinburgh and Newcastle airports, and over two hours from Glasgow airport. Low cost airlines such as British European, Easyjet, Lufthansa and Ryanair fly into these airports.
Car hire is available at all three airports, and there are also bus links into the Borders.

Travelling from Europe, you also have the option of two ferry ports within a few hours' drive of Jedburgh:
Newcastle International Ferry Terminal
P&O Ferries into Hull.
