Lounging about

We have closed the public bar, but now have this lovely lounge and bar for residents and dinner guests.

New Cafe Bar

Lunches, snacks and wonderful coffee from Bei & Nannini are now available in the Cafe Bar on the ground floor of the hotel. In good weather you can sit out in the Beer Garden (ideal if you have children needing to roar around) and enjoy the sunshine, but for the rest of the year the cosy little room is ideal.

John has been indulging his passion for baking and has a selection of delicious things to tempt you. Always assuming that we haven't got there first!

A new team member

Frances Jean arrived on 23 November 2007, and is making life very interesting indeed.

Three months old.

Fibre-Crafts Retreat

In late May 2007, we held the first Scottish Borders Fibre-Crafts Retreat at the hotel. Running from Friday night to Monday lunchtime, the retreat included a full day's tuition in either backstrap weaving or patchwork knitting, a guided walk around the historic Royal Burgh, a trip to the craft village at Harestanes, and a shopping trip to the Woolly Ewe in Kelso.

On the Saturday evening one of the Hawick Hosts, Gordon MacDonald, joined us for a Borders Banquet and gave us an introduction to the textile industry of Hawick. Entitled "Tweeds to Twinsets" it covered several hundred years of history, and included samples of some wonderful knitwear from the Hawick mills.

Evening Meals

With the reconstruction and renovation project finally coming to an end, we began offering evening meals in the hotel at the beginning of May 2007. The menu is deliberately small, with the focus on simple presentation of quality, locally-sourced ingredients.

John is really enjoying being back in the kitchen for more than just breakfast cooking!
